Matched by Ally Condie
My mom bought me this whole trilogy for Christmas years back, so i read these al pretty much back to back. I loved matched because it was pretty unique (though it did have so Divergent-like vibes to me). Then I read Crossed and I thought it was a bit slow and got more boring and predictable as it went on. Reached… I actually have no recollection of what happened in this book aside from some kind of epidemic health problem. I read about half of this book, stopped and read like 5 other books that I enjoyed so much more, then came back and finished this. I was unimpressed.
Divergent by Veronica Roth
Divergent isn’t a terrible series, and part of the problem for me was that I accidentally heard a spoiler about the ending on a YouTube video. But overall I feel like Divergent was great and the other two books were much less impressive. I haven’t even bothered to watch the movies past Divergent but I have heard they all suck.
Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I didn’t really like twilight that much. I mean, I definitely sped through the first three books feeling like they were great but then I hit Breaking Dawn and I just couldn’t even finish it. I felt like Bella’s story had become repetitive and kind of annoying… sorry… but not really, it’s my opinion.
The Secret Life of the American Teenager on ABC Family
In my opinion, all shows produced for the ABC Family (Freeform) channel are pretty sub par shows. The whole point of the name change at the beginning of the year was to widen the audience and make people interested in the content again, because it’s pretty crap. I am holding on hope that this next year will be better especially for the Shadowhunters series, but I really didn’t see much of a difference this year.
The Cinderella movies by Disney
Cinderella is my all-time favorite classic Disney film and I loved the sequels as a kid, but they are both unnecessary and not great. They were cute and fun but creating a trilogy out of a movie that is 50 years old is a silly idea to begin with. I feel like the saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” applies quite well here.
What series do you think got worse as they went along?
See you next time! Katie x
The moment I read the title, I immediately thought of Matched. I loved the first book, and became quickly confused by the second one. I never finished it, which means a lot because I try to finish a book no matter how sucky it is. Same with the second and third divergent books. I have no clue what happens and I don’t even care, which is really disappointing because they had great potential.

Hey! Completely agree with Divergent. The first book was amazing, I really enjoyed it! But then book two wasn’t great because Tris became quite annoying. The third book was terrible being from Tris and Four’s point of view because their voices were too similar and I didn’t have a clue who’s POV I was reading from half the time! It was very frustrating and such a shame since the trilogy started off so great! I have watched Divergent and Insurgent but didn’t bother watching Allegiant because everyone I heard from absolutely hated it! Why change it when the books are right there for you to use?

I think they got way too excited about making money that they threw away the story. But also, as we have noted, the books got worse as they went along so the movies were kind of doomed from the start 😂 I didn’t like the 2 perspectives in Allegiant either! Especially since it could have made the story much more interesting but I agree it was hard to tell the difference between the two. I’ve read so many other books with split perspectives that do a great job (i.e. The second half of Richelle Mead’s Bloodlines series).

Haha, definitely from what I’ve heard about Allegiant! I thought Divergent was good but Insurgent was so confusing and a lot of it was really pointless/hard to follow! They must have gotten a little crazy with how popular the first one was! To be fair though it was her first book/trilogy and it was better than a lot of others I’ve read from more experienced authors 😂

Very true it’s a really good series considering she wrote it so young!

True and then you end up prioritizing the new ones and the cycle continues and those poor ones you bought three years ago are still unread… Or is that just me? Lol

Nope that definitely sounds like me 😂 I bought Red Queen in February intending to read it that month and it still hasn’t been read yet I’m so bad 😂😂 Fast forward three years and it will still be unread 😂

Ooh wait but that one’s really good! haha I have yet to buy the second book, but at this point you might as well just wait until the series is complete and binge it XD so much more fun that way anyways

Yesss I love binge reading a series! By the time the next book comes out I forget what’s happened in the first one and then I keep putting the next book off ugh it’s a never ending cycle 😂

Yeahhh that’s the worst, and also why I am so glad I started writing reviews because I can give myself a quick recap now before I read a new book in a series lols
